• un des plus célèbres naturalistes britanniques (1925 - 1995), zoologue amateur depuis son enfance en Inde, en Angleterre et sur l'île de Corfu,
• organisateur de nombreuses expéditions (entre 1947 et 1963) pour capturer vivants des animaux rares et menacés en vue de les faire reproduire en captivité et de les réintroduire dans leur habitat naturel,
• fondateur du Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust en 1958, devenu par la suite Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust,
• auteur d'une série de livres remplis d'humour relatant ses expéditions, une mine d'or d'informations sur les animaux.

Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust continue à oeuvrer aujourd'hui inlassablement pour la préservation des animaux en danger et la formation de spécialistes de l'environnement et des espèces menacées du monde entier (en anglais conservationists) grâce à l'ouverture du International Training Centre (ITC) à Jersey en 1985.

Gerald Durrell

• one of the most famous British naturalists (1925 - 1995), amateur zoologist since his childhood in India, England and Corfu,
• he organised many expeditions (between 1947 and 1963) to capture endangered animals in order to breed them in captivity and reintroduce them to their natural habitat;
• founder of the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust in 1958, which later became the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust,
• author of a series of humorous books in which he recounts his expeditions, an invaluable source of information about animals.

Today the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust continues to work tirelessly for the preservation of endangered animals and the formation of conservationists thanks to the opening of the International Training Centre (ITC) in Jersey in 1985.
